Wow…this almost brings me back to my old public school days, when I remember things like:
- having to line up on the wall from “liberal” to “conservative” (with the few conservative kids in my left-leaning school district grilled by the teacher)
- a teacher actually telling us in this dreamy little voice about how liberals are more concerned with protecting freedoms while conservatives like to tell people what to do.
- Writing letters to Greenpeace to commend them for all of their hard work in 5th grade
Really, I believe things like this are just an outgrowth of an education system that is just trying to be too “innovative” for its own good. See my paper on Education and Marxism here
I know this isn’t new news, but a study recently released by a museum turned this sad fact into an excuse for a laugh:
Just 28 percent of respondents could name more than one of the five freedoms listed in the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment — about the same proportion that could name all five Simpson family members or could recall the three judges on Fox TV’s top-rated “American Idol
I’m not saying that I think everyone should be able to rattle off all five freedoms at the drop of a hat, but not being able to list more than one is just sad.
On a lighter note,
Among other rights not mentioned in the Constitution but listed by some respondents was the right to drive and the right to have pets.
I know…we’ve all nodded off during a boring meeting before, but the Supreme Court Artist’s rendition of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s 15-minute snooze really cracks me up.
